Q State your name for the ladies and gentlemen of the jury please. A My name is John Brown. Q How old are / you at this time, Mr. Brown. A I am 37 right now. In two weeks, I will have my / 38th birthday. Q Thank you. Are you married at this time? A Yes, sir, I am. Q How long have you been / married? A Well, I think it has been about 14 years if I recall. Q What is the name of your wife? / A April May Brown. Q Is that right? Your wife was born with the name of April May. A Yes, sir. She had / to put up with a little bit of teasing when she was a child. Q I think that it is a / great name. All right now, Mr. Brown, let us go on. You say that you have been married for about / 14 years; is that correct? A Yes, sir. That is right. Q Do you have any children of this marriage? A Yes. / We have a son, John Brown, Jr. Q Is that the only child that you have? A Yes, sir, he is our / only child. Q Do you have any other children from a previous marriage? A No, sir. He is the only child. Q I / forgot to ask you this question: Have you ever been married before this present marriage? A No, sir. This is my / first marriage. We got married after I came back from the air force. I was in the air force for / about five years. Q This brings up a point that I want you to know about. Try to answer the question / as I ask it to you. If you feel that you have to add some other stuff to the answer, / then it is fine if you do so; but try to stick to the exact question as I ask it / to you. A All right, I will do my best. Q Now, I really don’t want you to think that you have / to keep every answer very short and very brief. We want to get the best answer to each question. If / you feel that it is important that you add a little bit more to your answer, then I want you / to do it. A Okay, I think that I understand what you want. Q Now, let me see if I can find / out where we were. I had asked you about your children; is that correct? A Yes, sir. Well, I do not / have children. I have just the one child. Q That is right. I remember now. Then I asked you when you / got married to your wife? Did you answer that question? A No, sir. I don’t think that you asked me when / I got married. Q I thought that I had. I have a little note here that says that you were married / about 14 years. A Yes, sir. You asked me how long I have been married. I guess that I did not / understand what you were saying. Q No, no. It was my fault. I should ask each question so that you can / understand the exact thing that I want you to answer. A All right. So I have been married for about 14 / years, and if you want to know when I got married, it was on June 3 about 14 years / ago. That would make it right around 1989. Q Okay, thank you very much, Mr. Brown. I think we / have that cleared up again. Now then, can you tell us a little bit about your employment? Where do you / work at this time? A I work on the south side of town for Fox Machine Shop and Custom Parts. Q Where / is that located? Do you know the exact address? A It is 1427 Green Street. I think that that / is right. I never have to use the address. Let me check for you. I have it in my wallet. / Yes, sir. It is 1427 Green Street. Q How long have you been employed by Fox Machine Shop and / Custom Parts. A I have been there for the last 13 or 14 years. Q Do you work at night or do / you work during the day or does your work schedule change from week to week or from month to month. / A At this time I only work during the day. Q Did you ever work at night or have a different work / schedule than the one that you have right now? A Yes, sir. When I first went to work for them, they / had people that would work at night. Since I was new at that time, I had to start for them / at night. Q How long did you have a night schedule, if you recall? You don’t have to be exact about / it. A I think that it was for about a year or two. It was not very long. They did not / have a night schedule after my first year or two. Q Then is it correct that you have had a day / schedule for the last 12 years? A That would be about right. I have worked a day schedule for about 12 / years. It could be 11 years. Q That is good enough. Eleven or twelve years is close enough. What is your / present job, Mr. Brown? A I inspect the work after it has been done by the men that I am in / charge of. Q You inspect the end product. You do not do the work yourself; is that correct? A That is correct. / I have to make sure that the other men do a good job. They have to meet the standard set / by the company who will use the part. Q So you do not ever do any of the actual work? A Well, / I guess that I could not say that. If someone is out sick and we have a lot of work / for that day, then of course, I will have to do a little work.
