The Ultimate Speed Teacher Drill.
(Otherwise known as Step One)

This drill works for everybody.  For some, it gives them everything they need to succeed.  For others, it lays the groundwork for future more-technical drills.  The benefits begin showing up with only a few days of practice.

No matter who you are, this is the drill that you should start with.

Open the Speed Teacher.

On the right side, pick your speed. Choose anything. You can adjust it later.

On the left, pick your drill. Click "Pick Your Drill." Then choose "Common Words." Then choose "Top 100."

On the right side, set "Number of Words" at 5.

Click "Start." The drill begins.

On the right side, click "Big Fonts" as many times as you want to increase the size of the words on the screen.

Do this drill for a week exactly the way that I am about to describe it to you. Then write back and ask for Step Two. When you write, make sure you tell me what drill you are doing and the number of words.

Now you start to drill.

Adjust the speed so that you:
1. always finish each line of the drill before it changes to the next screen.
2. always write clear.

When you can finish twenty screens correctly, increase the speed.

When you start to write sloppy or when you do not finish each screen in time, decrease the speed.

It's as easy as that. If you ignore speed and instead turn your attention to clarity and rhythm, you will find that you are steadily increasing the speed of the drill, week by week.  You will notice the difference.

Steps 2 and 3 are just as easy.  After that, the type of drill that you choose will depend on your particular drilling style.
