Quirky Facts

STEGANOGRAPHY

This one is a real weirdo.  You won't find it in all dictionaries, but you can find it on the Internet.  The word "steganography" is usually used by wannabe spy guys.  I don't recall James Bond or Inspector Gadget using it.

Steganography is the art of hiding information.  You could send a secret message by hiding it in a carefully worded radio broadcast.  Other examples of steganography are invisible ink or the famous microdots of the Cold War spy novels.

Steganography comes from the Greek words steganos, hidden or covered, plus graphein, to write.  They translate as "hidden writing."

Some of the guys who use the word "steganography" aren't very bright.  You can find a handful of sites that mistakenly use our word "stenography" instead of their own weird word, steganography

It's probably a result of relying on a stupid spellchecker.
