| Three Easy Steno Drills byStephen John Shastay The first drill covers numbers. It is a hard drill to do correctly. Concentrate on the mechanics of the drill. Learn the proper pattern for stroking numbers accurately on your steno machine. 1) Rest your fingers on the home keys. Make sure that you return fully to the home keys. If you do this drill correctly, you will begin to see a difference in your steno within a few minutes. There aren’t many steno speed drills that I recommend. This one is a gold-plated, jewel-encrusted, kick-butt, number-one-with-a-bullet, speed builder. But you shouldn’t go any faster than your speed on the slowest or toughest section. Why? Because it is the slow section that is keeping you from moving to a higher speed. Every time you hit a portion of a test with the strokes that you have neglected to master, you have to slow down or you have to drop.
